My Story and How I Discovered My Passion

Hey there! Welcome to my new blog! I’m so excited to be able to share a piece of my crazy life with you and I really hope I get to know you! I absolutely enjoy getting to know new people, so this is an exciting time for me. Let me start this with some background info.

I’m Skylar, I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas with my amazing parents and five siblings. Yes, you read that right. FIVE. I have three sisters and two brothers. When my parents met, my mom had one child and my dad had four. They got married and had me. My family is a little unconventional but we all love it and I definitely wouldn’t change anything about it. I have four wild nephews and three sassy nieces that keep me on my toes. I have a crazy three year old yorkie pup named Bentley, that likes to eat my clothes and cuddle with me. I love him (most days…). My favorite sport in basketball because I played for about 12 years, but I really enjoy watching football (NFL if you’re wondering). My favorite movie of all time is ‘12 Angry Men’ from director, Sidney Lumet. I only listen to country music because that’s what I grew up, but I enjoy learning about new music. Also, I share a birthday with the infamous Steven Spielburg, so I like to tell people I was born to be a director.

I’m going to get deep for a second, but bare with me. My brother, Ben, passed away in a car accident when I was nine and he was 17. I was extremely close with him and it is the hardest thing I’ve lived through, even to this day. I blamed myself for his death because of the events of him leaving the house that night and I became extremely depressed and antisocial. When I was about 11, my mom gave me an old camera she had and I used it to take pictures and video of everything I did. That camera gave me a reason to be social and get out of my house on the days I didn’t want to. It didn’t take away the depression, but it gave me something to do to take my mind off of it. In my freshman year of high school I joined the video production program and began to find a deeper connection to creating videos. I fell in love with editing and stories. I began to find myself and decided, in my senior year, that I would go to college for filmmaking. I tried online for about a year before I decided it wasn’t for me. I took a break for a year before moving to Florida and attending Full Sail University

It took me years to figure out who I was, but I always knew I belonged behind a camera. Now, I’m living my dream in Nashville, touring with bands, and continuing to develop my story. I always tell people to follow their dreams and I truly mean it. No matter the struggles, doubts, or negative people, the end result will always be worth it. I’m happy to say that I am the happiest I have ever been.

So yeah, that was a little bit about me. Leave a comment below and tell me what your dream is. Also, be sure to subscribe below to get updates about new blogs, events, and giveaways!
